Shocked and exhausted Harry lands on the grass (he can tell by the scent). From what I can tell, Albus and Cornelius were immediately with him and 'Moody' joined them very soon after. Peter releases Harry, who might have considered running, but can't because his leg is injured, and anyway the DEs closed the gaps in the circle. Was that standard DE procedure? So the gaps only represent deaths/captures/absences since the previous time the circle was formed? So perhaps I have no idea if the number of DEs was growing or diminishing
